- Samuilo Stefanović offered his collection for sale to the Belgrade Municipality
The prelude to the establishment of the Belgrade City Museum was a sale offer made by Belgrade merchant Samuilo Stefanović concerning his collection of antique arms, jewellery and paintings. Although it did not result in a sale, the offer remained as a testimony that in the late 19th century Belgrade's municipal authorities had already come to an idea of establishing a city museum. The amount demanded by Mr. Stefanović was 40 thousand pieces of gold. However, the collection was purchased in 1902 for 30 thousand pieces of silver.
