- Technique: Photography
Jovan Cvijić spent 42 years doing field research all over the Balkan Peninsula, in Asia Minor, South Carpathians, Italy, south France, Austria, and Scandinavia, laying bases for several scholarly disciplines – geomorphology, limnology (the study of inland waters), anthropogeography, and ethnology. His research resulted in scientific theses on karst phenomena, the discovery of glaciation in the Balkan Mountains, i.e. in the Rila Mountain; identification of mountain systems on the Balkan Peninsula; devising the Pannonian Basin Abrasion Theory that raises the issue of the genesis of the Đerdap Gorge and the formation of Bosphorus and Dardanelles.
