Great destitution and a monetary chaos in the aftermath of World War I generated the need for a stable currency in circulation. The local authorities in several towns and cities of the new state responded timely by issuing their own municipal money – papers of value. From the information on the notes issued by the Municipality of Belgrade it can be seen that they were convertible into the corresponding amount of the state-issued money at the municipal cashier's.
