Synchronized mass exercise performances were organized at the Stadium of the Yugoslav People's Army (presently the stadium of the Partizan Football Club) on the occasion of Josip Broz Tito's birthday. The first official celebration of the Youth Day was held there on May 25, 1957. It included the handing over of the relay stick to Josip Broz after the programme performed by young people, sportsmen, soldiers of the Yugoslav People's Army, various choirs, orchestras and other participants. Since 1957 to 1988 performances of this kind were held annually. In 1988, synchronized mass exercises were replaced by a ballet performance participated in by 4000 young people.
