Aleksandar Cvetković (1947) is one of the most productive and most inventive Belgrade painters of the 1970s and 1980s. His inexhaustible curiosity and creative energy promote him as a witness of and participant in all significant events. Thus, in his own specific artistic manner, Cvetković contributed to the marking of the jubilee anniversary of the Battle of Kosovo (1389). Abandoning all narrative elements, he transposes the theme of the Battle of Kosovo into the language of visual symbols. That is an artistic language in which narration is replaced by association. Banners, spears and crosses are immersed in mist, coatings and the layers of time. Associative elements are threads whereby the artist maintains the link with the theme.
