In painting Belgrade, Olja Ivanjicki (1931) creates a unique symphony of space with much sensitivity for tangible values and a balanced geometric surface. She treats architecture and the object on canvas both as a document and as a symbol that produces a dissected, but (by its meaning and poetics) comprehensive totality of the past and the present. Beams of light are coming out from the roof of the Federal Assembly Building, while in the tympanum there is a presentation of Belgrade from the old engravings. Sculptures of horses by Toma Rosandić and the portraits of the Roman Emperor Macrinus, NikolaTesla, Vuk Karadžić and Miša Anastasijević can be discerned.
