The beginnings of organized care for physical development of young generations in Serbia started in Lyceum, at the start of the second half of the 19th century, the first physical education textbook appeared and, at the end of the century, the First Belgrade's Society for Gymnastic and Fighting was established. At the same time Sokol movement, including the youth outside the schools, started appearing . Sokols had hard and solid organization around the whole Serbia with many members. The most active sportsmen were participants of horsing, firing, gymnastic, and bicycle tournaments. The first ball for football arrived in Belgrade in 1896, so Sokols also included a football tournament. In the beginning of the 20th century new sport disciplines are brought in, rowing and swordplay. Sokol movement produced many young generations of sportsmen and new sport clubs with whose effort Serbia became a member of International Olympic Committee in 1912.
